What is PAR timber?

PAR timber is “planed all round” timber and this means that each side of the wood has been planed to create a smooth surface to work with. This particular finish is a great choice if the sides of your timber are going to be visible and you want to make a good impression.

Commonly used as both a decorative and construction timber, PAR timber can be used to create everything from large structural frames right down to animal hutches.

PAR timber is also particularly good for DIY projects as its planed edges make it easy to work with and less likely to give out splinters.

Is PAR Timber Better Than Rough Sawn Timber?

As with all construction related questions, whether you’ll be better off with rough sawn or PAR timber will come down to the project you’re working on.

It’s safe to say, however, that PAR timber is the better choice when it comes to selecting a material that’s going to be seen and used on a regular basis. This has to do with the way it presents a clean finish that’s ultimately more desirable when building something that’s on display.

Should you have any further questions relating to PAR and PSE, or indeed any of our timber for sale- whether it be Swedish Redwood or our selection of sleepers and scaffold boards - give us a call today.
